These are only some of the pets that became separated from their owners after Hurricane Katrina or Rita. Some were definitely rescued and either adopted out or "lost in the system,"some escaped and are believed to be roaming in their neighborhood, and others fate is uncertain.

If you believe that the pet you adopted or rescued might be a Katrina pet whose owner is missing it, please look through these images, and the images at various sites at the "More Pets" link above. There was much confusion in Katrina/Rita's aftermath and not all pets identified as as "owner surrender" when they were adopted out actually were. Some animals classified as "stray" were actually owned and had become separated from their guardian.

Abby was finally located. We are sorry to learn that Abby, while rescued, and having lived for a time afterward, was not able to heal from her ordeal; Abby has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We extend our sincerest condolences to Abby's guardians.

Abby is a grey female spayed tabby with green eyes. She is 7 years old. She was microchipped after the storm with number 4XXXXXXXXX7. She is grey/silver/black with a little brown on her stomach and nose, and her owner says she has "catitude."

Abby was definitely rescued and to Lamar-Dixon, in Gonzales, LA. Her owner has located her on Petfinder.com, but have not been able to find out from HSUS which shelter she went to after she left Lamar-Dixon.
