These are only some of the pets that became separated from their owners after Hurricane Katrina or Rita. Some were definitely rescued and either adopted out or "lost in the system,"some escaped and are believed to be roaming in their neighborhood, and others fate is uncertain.

If you believe that the pet you adopted or rescued might be a Katrina pet whose owner is missing it, please look through these images, and the images at various sites at the "More Pets" link above. There was much confusion in Katrina/Rita's aftermath and not all pets identified as as "owner surrender" when they were adopted out actually were. Some animals classified as "stray" were actually owned and had become separated from their guardian.

DESCRIPTION:
Three female beagles, unspayed prior to Katrina. At the time of Katrina, one was four years old, and the other two about five years old. They were removed from their home on E. Casa Calvo. There was a sign on the house that had the writings "9/14" ,"9/18" and "Camp Lucky". All three dogs had orange collars when they were left and one collar had an i.d. that said "Congressman Herbert", a previous owner. The dogs' names are Trudy,Kelly, and Kricket. The three dogs are bonded and usually stay close together.

Note: it was reported to us that the after unsuccessful attempts to contact the owner regarding potential leads regarding these dogs, an active search is no longer being conducted and the contact information has been removed from this page.
