These are only some of the pets that became separated from their owners after Hurricane Katrina or Rita. Some were definitely rescued and either adopted out or "lost in the system,"some escaped and are believed to be roaming in their neighborhood, and others fate is uncertain.
If you believe that the pet you adopted or rescued might be a Katrina pet whose owner is missing it, please look through these images, and the images at various sites at the "More Pets" link above. There was much confusion in Katrina/Rita's aftermath and not all pets identified as as "owner surrender" when they were adopted out actually were. Some animals classified as "stray" were actually owned and had become separated from their guardian.

JASMINEJasmine is a red chow with some white on her muzzle, about 45lb. She has a problem with hotspots and was probably found with some bare spots around her buttocks and back legs ,but in the cooler months she doesn't have that. Her "lost" PF #is 19699. Jasmine's owners were forced to leave her behind at the Superdome with another dog (that her owners were recently reunited with). Jasmine was tied up with a reddish/orange collar and a chain leash at the Superdome. No tags or chips. The owners were forced to leave both their dogs behind with dozens of other dogs, as FEMA wouldn't transfer them. One of the dogs went to Los Angeles, California with a group called " New Leash on Life", who say they did not receive Jasmine. Contact: Telephone: 214-492-1277 |
