These are only some of the pets that became separated from their owners after Hurricane Katrina or Rita. Some were definitely rescued and either adopted out or "lost in the system,"some escaped and are believed to be roaming in their neighborhood, and others fate is uncertain.
If you believe that the pet you adopted or rescued might be a Katrina pet whose owner is missing it, please look through these images, and the images at various sites at the "More Pets" link above. There was much confusion in Katrina/Rita's aftermath and not all pets identified as as "owner surrender" when they were adopted out actually were. Some animals classified as "stray" were actually owned and had become separated from their guardian.

MUFFINDESCRIPTION: Muffin's "lost" Petfinder # is PF60498. Muffin's "found" Petfinder# is PF36227. A $500 reward is offered for her safe return. Muffin is a spayed female Chow / Shepherd mix. She is medium size (about 55 lbs.). She is reddish golden brown with black tips. Her hair is short/medium and is smooth. Her coat isn't like a Chow's coat at all, more like a Shepherd's. Her ears are short and half down, although sometimes one stands up a little. She was probably microchipped at Lamar Dixon. Muffin is a very sweet and loving girl. She is a little shy at times. She may be a little territorial with other animals on occasion, but never with humans. The owner says she really misses her a lot; she says Muffin is a sensitive dog the owner is worried about how she is doing. Muffin was brought to Lamar Dixon. Her paperwork there includes the owner's street address, Mississippi Ave. in Metairie, LA Muffin is definitely on Petfinder as "found". Her number is PF36227. This report shows her at Lamar Dixon, but no further information is listed. The owner went to Lamar Dixon several times to look for her, but Muffin was no longer there. CONTACT INFORMATION |
