These are only some of the pets that became separated from their owners after Hurricane Katrina or Rita. Some were definitely rescued and either adopted out or "lost in the system,"some escaped and are believed to be roaming in their neighborhood, and others fate is uncertain.
If you believe that the pet you adopted or rescued might be a Katrina pet whose owner is missing it, please look through these images, and the images at various sites at the "More Pets" link above. There was much confusion in Katrina/Rita's aftermath and not all pets identified as as "owner surrender" when they were adopted out actually were. Some animals classified as "stray" were actually owned and had become separated from their guardian.

| Tobias is a pure-bred Shih Tzu. He was last seen on August 31, 2005, and weighed 22lbs at that time. He is tan and was shaved down before Katrina. He has long ears and a long tail. He has a white blaze on his forehead and around his nose, which very visible when he is shaved. He has skin allergy problems and was being given allergy shots. He is allergic to about 24 different things (trees, certain dog food ingredients, grass, dust...) His hair by the paws and his belly turn burgundy color and crusty due to his skin allergies. He is missing from St.Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Tobias was last seen wearing a green collar that snaps together with a rabies tag # 2152. His collar stated on it "Pet Care Center, Metairie, Louisiana (504-887-2999) C/o Doctor Steve Slayton." Tobias was last seen with a white Shih Tzu on August 31, 2005 inside Chalmette High School Gym.
